Stop Outlook formatting telephone numbers and making them unusable

I try to save a number (Australian) in Outlook and it is automatically
reformatted to a number which cannot be dialled from my synchronised mobile
device (iPhone)

How do I stop it?

What country are you in? Also, how are you entering the phone number? Are
you using the full international dialing sequence
