Stop visio from saving previous versions of diagram

Each time exit from visio, a version of the diagram is saved. If I click the
X on the tool bar that has File Edit View, etc. The previous version of the
diagram displays. I don't need the previous versions. The documents are
taking up more space then necessary. How do I stop visio from saving
previous versions?
