Stopping autonumbering in an outline

M

Microsoft.com

I have a long document that I created that is essentially a big outline. I
used outline numbering with 1, 1.1, 1.2, 2 scheme.

Now that this document is complete, I don't want the outline numbers to
advance everytime I press a hard return at the end of a line. Other people
need to type in this outline while keeping my outline numbering in tact.
Currently, users are inconvenience becase when they press enter at the end
of a line, the autonumbering advances by 1.

How can I stop this so users can type without changing my outline?

Many thanks.

You can either convert the autonumbering to hard text (someone will be along
in a moment to do that), or you can change the "Style for following
paragraph" for each of your numbered styles to the appropriate List Continue
level for the outline level. The List Continue styles are indented to match
outline numbering (if you've modified your outline levels, you'll need to
modify the indents of the List Continue styles to match) but are not
numbered.

Alt-F11 Ctl-G to display the immediate window

In the immediate window, type

ActiveDcument.ConvertNumbersToText

(you'll get an autocomplete after typing the .c... _
