Stopping REVERT pop up message

Something must have changed on my documents or my copy of Word 2000
(version 9). Now whenever I open a document Word ask me if I want to
revert to the saved copyof the document.

Why is this happening? How can I prevent it?

Thanks for any info.

Hi Vance,

How are you opening the document? Are you using File/Open or
double-clicking them in an Exploring window such as My Computer?

Additionally, this message typically comes up if you already have the
document open and it contains modifications. Are you certain you do
not have the document already open?

I am opening the document by double clicking a DOC file.

The file is a word document created by the exact same version of Word
I use to open it.

There is no other document open and Word is not already launched.

Hi Vance,

Thanks for the additional information. :)

Since you are opening the documents outside the Word application then
I suspect there is a problem with your file association. This is easy
enough to recreate by going to Start/Run and running:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

btw, do your files contain a date field that is automatically updating
when it opens? The "revert to saved" threw me a little. This occurs
only when the document is open and has been modified since the last
save. However if there is a field updating, such as a date field, then
that would explain it so I'd say the problem with your file
association is your OS is attempting to open the document twice when
you attempt to open it outside the application.
