Stopping SPAM

K

KJG

I registered to post a question on this discussion group on Friday. Since
then, I have been bombarded with SPAM. All the emails contain a message like
this:

You are receiving this e-mail because you subscribed to MSN Featured Offers.
Microsoft respects your privacy. If you do not wish to receive this MSN
Featured Offers e-mail, please click the "Unsubscribe" link below. This will
not unsubscribe you from e-mail communications from third-party advertisers
that may appear in MSN Feature Offers. This shall not constitute an offer by
MSN. MSN shall not be responsible or liable for the advertisers' content nor
any of the goods or service advertised. Prices and item availability subject
to change without notice.

Is there a way to stop these?

Thanks

Sure, use a newsreader, rather than web access.
Any way your post should be addressed to MSN, this is not such a group, its
a group dedicated to Outlook.
Or use a rule to perminently delete

this looks like "legit" msn spam, it's probably OK to unsubscribe from the
link. In the future, when you are signing up for something, pay attention to
the check boxes, they usually let you opt out of this kind of email, but most
people just rush past it.

I did not have to register with anybody to post articles to this newsgroup.
I just set up a news client (MS Outlook Express will suffice, but I like
40tude Dialog much better).

I don't even recall that I needed to register for using the "Microsoft CDO
for Windows 2000" news reader; which is really just your browser accessing
an HTTP-to-NNTP server. I did that to test some issues that people were
reporting. However, I find using a web browser to read NNTP articles is
painfully klunky. NNTP (news) readers work much better.

This is what hard core spam fighters call, "Mainsleaze spam". However, when
you registered, you probably did not read the options offered very
carefully. Registration for anything almost always has a preslected choice
to receive email advertisements; and it is up to you to read the offers, and
decline them. In this case, just click on the unsubscribe button. Because
you effectively subscribed when you registered, unsubscribing should not be
an issue in this case.

if you use the web site, you need to log in with a Windows Live account,
hotmail, msn, etc...

I never quite understand why people complain about spam, but at the same
time spell it in all CAPS, as if it were something GOOD...

So? If you already have one, as I did, you don't need to "register" with the
Windows Communities web site.

Neither does Hormel, which fights hard to distinguish between "spam" and
"SPAM®". BTW, I don't much care for spam, but I do think SPAM® is very
tasty.

MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm... SPAM!

How do you get *that* idea? The most famous local dish in Okinawa is
Goya Champuru, made from goya, tofu, egg, and SPAM - delicious!

And recently, at an izakaya in Ginza I had SPAM sushi - very original!

P.S. the question mark that appears to be my earlier reply was
originally a Unicode smilie face.
