Stopping Spam

If a mail reader would intelligently separate emails it would make life
easier for those that are not familiar with filters.

There is no reason why all mail readers should not separate people on
your contact list from the pack. For a large number of folks this
alleviates the spam problem by the knowledge even if you delete
everything in the spam folder you won't miss any important emails.

The second method all mail readers should use is an OPTIONAL whitelist.
A whitelist is a list of email addresses kept automatically by the
mail reader of people you have sent email to. This assures the user
that any email they send will be recognized by the mail reader as
friend. Again, even if you delete everything in the spam folder you
can be sure anyone you have sent an email to will be accepted as
friendly.

Another useful way to be sure that someone you wish to email you will
be separated from the pack is the OPTION of using keywords. Your mail
reader should allow you enter keywords for the subject or body of the
message. You then have the OPTION of asking anyone you give your email
address to add your nickname/first name/pets name or another keyword
that would be easy to remember to the message. If you are a member of
any group/organization you can use that as a keyword to assure anyone
in your group will be recognized as friend. THIS IS ONLY NEEDED FOR
THE FIRST EMAIL. For future emails the email address could be
whitelisted and future messages will be recognized as friendly. If
someone does abuse this option you can remove them from the whitelist.
The keywords can change daily if the need arises.

THE REST IS SPAM. You still have the spam folder but you have little
reason to check it.
