Turning off the Office 2000 Clipboard
By Helen Feddema
Silvio Oliveira wrote me to ask if there was any way to completely
turn off the annoying Office 2000 clipboard, that keeps popping up in your
face over whatever you are working on. (In Office XP, the clipboard is much
better behaved, staying in its place in the new Task Pane.) I didn't know
of any way to do this, but he persisted, and found a method to turn it off,
involving changing a setting in the Registry. Here is the method he found,
with the usual warnings about backing up the Registry before tinkering with
it:
Open the Registry, and locate the following key:
HKey_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\General
On the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value . With New Value
#1 selected, type AcbControl , and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify . In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box,
click Decimal under Base . Type 1 in the Value data box. Click OK and quit
the Registry Editor.
