Working in an Exchange 2000/Outlook 2000/XP environment, we are trying to
save a link to an Access database somewhere in the Contact record. The
database includes information about the contact's current leases with our
company and we would like to be able to open it from the Contact's record
without having to know where the database is located.
We have tried linking to the database with a variety of methods
(insert..object..as link) and have no trouble creating a link. When we try
to save the Contact with the new link, however, we are warned that the file
may be inaccessible after we save it.
After saving, the link is, indeed inaccessible and the Outlook Contact
record shows that "Outlook has blocked access to a potentially unsafe
object: Package".
I've modified the registry on my PC to RemoveLevel1 files with the
extensions of .mdb and .lnk, and, though this allows Access files and links
to come in as email attachments, it has no effect on links stored in the
Contact record.
What format/extension relates to these files stored as "Package" and how
do I open up access to them? How do attachments stored with Contacts differ
from attachments stored with messages?
Is there an alternative way of getting to the Access databases with a
single click? I've tried associating the file and the contact through the
Journal, but that's multi-step and still only allows me to save, not open
the link.
Thank you for your help!
