Storing Macros within Word

Where does Word store macros? Are they part of the document that you are in
when you create them? Are they independent files that can be edited and
saved as they are in WordPerfect? Any and all information I can get on this
would be appreciated! Thank you!

Macros are normally saved in templates. If you're not consciously putting
them elsewhere, you are putting them into normal.dot. You CAN put macros
into an ordinary document, but this is not a common practice. You can edit
macros, and move them around between documents and templates, in the VBE
environment -- in Word, press Alt-F11. If you want to distribute macros
independently, the usual method is to put them into a dedicated template
which you save in Word's start-up folder: the template is them loaded as an
add-in.

Macros are stored in templates or (rarely) documents. They are stored in
normal.dot by default, but this is seldom the best place for them. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.
