Storing Microsoft User Data folder on external drive

Okay, this is a good one. I have an external firewire hard drive that I use to house my Microsoft User Data folder used with Entourage 2008 (Version 12.1.1 (080522) I bring this hard drive back and forth to work each day to that all of my emails, to do's, and calendar events are available to me in both locations. I have been doing this for the last four years (at least) by creating an alias of the Microsoft User Data folder (which I moved to the hard drive) and placing it in the User/Documents folder. That way when Entourage launches, it looks to the alias and opens up the identities folder on the hard drive and Voila my data appears as though it were on the local hard drive. Over the summer our organization migrated to an Exchange 2007 server. I have several accounts set up in my identity Exchange and Pop. The problem is that now (somehow) while my Exchange messages appear in both locations my POP accounts will show me ONLY the messages that I sent or received AT that location. It is like I have TWO different identities now. I have verified that the alias is definitely pointing on both home and office computers to the external hard drive. I am baffled and have been trying to figure this one out for several months now. Has anyone seen this before?

You need to update. Download 12.1.5. Not sure if this will fix the problem,
but it does include many fixes and improvements.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.5 Update released Dec 9, 2008 (requires
12.1.0 SP1)

I'm not an Exchange expert but I'm guessing it's some change on the server.

Tip: You must quit the Microsoft Database daemon in order to eject the
drive.
