I would like to use a Sharepoint MySite for storing my OneNote files. I use
two computers, one is a desktop, the other is a tablet; and would like to
have the MySite private document library serve as the primary repository of
the OneNote files. Changes to existing notes and any new notes created on the
tablet would be synchronized with the MySite and the desktop could access the
information as well. This way I can leverage the search features and also
access the content from any computer through a web browser.
These would be considered "private" documents and not "shared workspaces".
When trying to configure OneNote to use a document library folder on a
MySite as the default OneNote note location, I copy the URL of the folder
within the Private Document library on the MySite and when it is pasted into
the default location configuration option under "Tools/Options/Open and Save"
I receive the error message that I cannot use a URL in that field.
TechNet shows information on how to configure OneNote to save files at a
remote location but the description seems to be for a previous version of
OneNote as it does not match the OneNote 2003 SP2 installation I have.
So,
1. How do I determine the UNC of the private document library in the
Sharepoint MySite so that I can enter it into the default location.
2. Can OneNote really use a URL specification for the default file location
and I have a configuration issue on my workstation that is causing me to get
this error dialog.
3. Am I trying to do something that won't really work and there is a simpler
alternative that someone can share with me.
4. I can do what I have described but I really won't want to because it is a
major pain to use on an ongoing basis.
I'd appreciate any constructive comments that community members may have
regarding how they have gotten Sharepoint to work with OneNote and whether it
has improved or hindered their productivity.
Thanks.
