Strange auto zoom when laptop is connected to projector

Hi,

I have a Dell 620 running XP sp2. I can connect my laptop to a projector
and see both images with no issues. However, when I open an office document
(Excel, Word, Outlook email, Powerpoint presentation) the document
automatically zooms to 400%. Even if I change the zoom back to 100% it
automatically zooms back to 400%. If I try to view the Powerpoint
presentation as an actual slide show then Powerpoint flashes through all the
slides at lightening speed and there is nothing that I can do to stop it.

I've tried looking in the accessibility settings to see if there is
something there which is ticked when it shouldn't be, but I cannot see
anthing...

Please help - my job is based around giving training presentations which I
cannot do at the moment!

usually 1024 x 768.

And you know, this almost sounds like a mouse driver issue to me. Try
updating your mouse drivers. I know that sounds weird, but it's worth a
shot.

a Microsoft wireless mouse, but when I'm using my laptop standalone I use a
standard Dell USB mouse. Do you think that there may be conflict there with
the drivers? All my kit is only 2 months old...

I think if you try the other two things and they don't help, then there may
well be a conflict with the mouse drivers and the projector.

was a problem when hitting Fn+F8. It was a MS keyboard and zooming issue (so
nearly right with the mouse driver idea).

Hm. I guess I don't quite understand the zooming issue, but I'm glad just
toggling through the Fn+F8 cycle fixed it. Thanks for posting your

Many thanks Jo for finding a solution. I had a similar problem with my Dell
Inspiron 9400 when I looked to interface an external monitor and hit Fn+F8.
I have spent hours hunting for a solution and even posted my own plea for
help on 08/19/2007. I noted your mail and noted the connection.

I have followed the linkto Yahoo and yes it works ! I would like somone to
explain why, but have to take it on trust. Perhaps Dell & Vista should
publish fix as surely we are not the only guys to experience this problem.

Strictly WAG, but it seems to match something I've run into before ...
computer
and projector at mismatched resolutions and the pj "windows" into the
image
from the computer rather than downsampling it to fit. Ie, it shows the
middle
1024x768 pixies out of whatever the computer's set to.

I wish I could say that the solution outlined in the Yahoo article fixed my
problem, but it does not. Neither do the other suggestions. I have a Dell
Latitude 610 and even after cycling through the display modes with Fn+F8, I
can't get the zooming to stop. What is worse is that after I disconnect the
projector from my laptop, the zooming issue remains on my LCD and attempting
to cycle back through the display modes does not help. Like Jo, I am using a
MS wireless mouse with a docking station at home, but when undocked I am just
using the touchpad.

Anyone have any other ideas? I'm suspicious now of the mouse driver. What
is odd is that I never had this problem until I reinstalled WinXP and the
video drivers of my Radeon X300 card. There are no newer drivers for my
card. I also do not have IntelliPoint Pro installed.

Had the same issue with a couple of D610.
Found out that uninstalling intellipoint software solved the issue.

I wish I could say that the solution outlined in the Yahoo article fixed my

I had this same problem with one of our units here. I would be willing to bet you are using a wireless keyboard on this unit. When i went to the options for the keyboard i disabled the "ZOOM" option completely. And it fixed the problem. Apparently there is a hidden hot key for the the Function and F8 key to zoom with the keyboard...which is all the same one that your laptop uses for LCD/CRT, that kicks in as soon as you try to use the projector.
