Strange Behavior after A2000 installation

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if not please advise where

I have a user who installed Access 2000, then realized he needed Access 97. He uninstalled all of Office 2k, then installed Office 97 (including Access)

When he tries to run msaccess.exe he gets the following error
------------------------------------------------
No Title for the message bo

Line 1: can't find the database you specified, or you didn't specify a database at all

Line 2: Specify a valid database name in the command line, and include a path if necessary, so that can find the applicatio

OK button onl
------------------------------------------------

The executable is in the directory program files\microsoft office\office. Double-clicking the msaccess.exe produces the above error

I haven't seen this before, any idea what is going on, and how to fix it

Thanks

Hi Tom

Thanks for posting in the community.

From your description, I understand that your user met with the problem after uninstalling the
Office 2000 and reinstalling the earier one - Office 97. After that, he could not open the
database and received the error message stating that the database cannot be found.

First of all, please verify if customer has the full version of Access 97 installed, not a run-time
Access 97. In this case, When he tried to open a database by double-clicking the .mdb file
or a shortcut directed to that file, he would receive that two error messages.

One the nexe place, the most possible casue is that he installed multiple versions of
Access on his computer and this is stongly not recommended and will cause the license
problem or database not found issue.

To solve this problem, I suggest him trying the following methods:

1) Complete uninstall Access97 with the steps detailed described in the following articles:

254250 OFF97: How to Completely Remove Microsoft Office 97
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=254250

176823 OFF97: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office 97 Files
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=176823

2) Create a NEW directory and install Office 97 to that directory.

If the problem persists after he installs teh Office. I believe the problem hits the know issue
that license key of Access 97 is not properly registered on his computer. In this way, you
need to have your user apply the solution in the following KB:

141373 ACC: "There Is No License" Error Message Starting Microsoft Access
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=141373

If there is anything more I can do to assist you and your user, please feel free to post it in the
group. I'm glad to be of assistance.
