strange custom shape behavior

I modified the Gane-Sarson process and data store shapes to add identifier
and short name areas. I did this by adding two new rectangles in the top of
each shape. Sometimes, when I move or cut and paste the new shape, it
separates into the three components. How do I keep the components together?
I tried grouping them but that does not allow me to enter text into the new
areas.

Also, when I use a dynamic connector to link the shapes visually, the
connector will sometimes connect to one of the subcomponent rectangles and
not the overall shape. How do I fix this?

I think you already know that when you click the sub shape in a group after
you click the group, squares with x appear. At this moment, you can edit the
text in the sub shape, and more you can cut or copy the sub shape.

A connector catches a sub shape in a group. I thought it is normal.
