Strange error messages, documents won't close

I have Word 98 for Macs and a Mac OS 92.2. system that are now several years
old. In the past couple of months I've had trouble closing Word documents,
and when I try to close them I get messages like "Word could not fire
event," and "Could not find DLL." I've also noticed lately that the first
word document I close after starting the program takes as long as 15 minutes
to close.

Anyone know what's up?

This is just a guess. You could try deleting the "Word Settings" file in
your preferences folder, and the Word Normal Template file. Then restart
Word, it will recreate these files in their default form. If you do this,
keep in mind that you will have to rebuilt your normal template if you've
made changes to it.
