Strange Formatting Happening

I have come accross a problem where if I select one word
and try to bold/underline it - it bolds/underlines the
whole document. If I hit cntr-Z, it reverts back to the
actual word that I wanted formatted.
I am having the same thing with bullets - I try and bullet
one line and it does the whole document, until I hit ctrl-
Z.
This doesn't happen on every document and I can't figure
out the commonality between when it does/doesn't happen.
Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Did anyone get back to you with an answer to your
problem? Or have you found the answer yourself? I'm
having the same problem with formatting and I can't sort
it out. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.
