Strange formatting information upon saving

When I save a document with graphics or not, when I reopen
it has like !

After it. And all my graphics are missing. I must have
done something but I can't figure out what that something
is so I can undo it.

Have you checked for a virus? There are some viruses that destroy the
contents of documents whilst leave the file size and descriptor identical to
the original.
