Strange Formatting

I messed up with Word, and now a little nasty paragraph symbol appears in the
text. When I hit return, it comes with it. It cannot be cut or deleted.
When I re-started comp, it was still there. I don't know how to get rid of
it; and I am totally puzzled how I got it there in the first place. So,
other than uninstall and reinstall Word, does anybody have an idea how to get
rid of that thing? It drives me nuts. Thanks.

If you look around the screen you might notice a toolbar button with
the same ¶ symbol on it. Click it to turn them off. Click again to
turn them on, again to turn them off... The shortcut key combination
Ctrl+Shift+8 does the same thing, as does the "All" box in the Tools >
Options > View dialog.

Read http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm to
find out what these symbols are for. They're available for a reason.
