Strange Microsoft Office behavior on my new Mac Pro tower

PowerPoint and Excel will run but Word and Entourage begin to start up
and then quit. The Remove Office tool also quits. Any ideas as to
what to do in this circumstance? I'd appreciate any clues as to what
might be the problem. I have the Office: mac 2004 Student and Teacher
Edition.

I migrated everything over from my old G5 to the new MacPro tower,
including all support files so far as I know.

Word and Entourage rely quite heavily on your Office identity, especially
the database used by Entourage. Word accesses it for several features, and
Entourage uses it, too, though that should be obvious. Hold down the Option
key when you launch Entourage, and the Database Utility should start up. See
if rebuilding your database does the job.

Guys... PLEASE....

Stop trying to "migrate" from a PowerPC computer running OS 10.3 to an Intel
computer running OS 10.4.

If the thing runs at all, I will be very surprised. It will never run
clean! :)

You must do a REINSTALL of Office on the new computer. Then start each
program, so it can complete its First-Run housekeeping.

Then you can bring your data across!

If you don't install first, you're just making the game too hard. All Unix
programs create a set of settings files that customise themselves to the
hardware and software platform they find themselves on. If you don't allow
this process to complete the software us unlikely to ever run properly.

It's like asking the software to find its way around with the street map for
a different city!

Cheers

Off topic note on John's last comment: I'm starting to suspect that using
Migration Assistant to get from OS 10.3 to OS 10.4, all on PPC, left some
glitches in my Adobe Creative Suite and Macromedia Studio. At least, I
can't think of any other culprit, though I haven't put much energy into this
yet.
