strange problem opening office files over the network ....

I

ikke

I noticed this strange behavior on a client laptop.
When I try to open an office file (other files go fast, even MUCH bigger
files) it loads extremely slowly.
It is network related, because the file open quick locally.
The network connection is fine though, 100mbit, and when i copy the file
locally the file transfer is very fast.
I already checked dns setting, all seems fine.
I have no errors on the eventvwr whatsoever.
I noticed this kb, but I am not sure if this will resolve anything?
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822219&SD=tech

it is office 2003 latest SP and patches
client OS is win xp, latest SP's and patches
when I open a file it takes about 20 seconds, but when I close it and reopen
it it goes very fast.
But I guess this is just a local cached copy?

some additional info:

- same behaviour when the antivirus (trendmicro) is closed
- same behavior when pressing File > open from within word or excel.
- i checked this kb:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833041 , no
change :/

word opens directly, but the word screen stays grey and there is 'ready' in
the left bottom.
10 or 20 seconds later, the document displays ... .
So it looks more like a memory issue?? although other programs (acrobat,
pictures,....) don't have that issue .... .

It has nothing to do with non-existing shares btw.
Really strange behavior ....

Did anyone already had this problem?
What could be a solution here?
