Strange problem sending emails

Dave F.

Hi all,

I'm having a strange problem with sending email on a new HP business
computer. This machine belongs to the boss and email is his most important
tool. He sends and receives as many as a hundred emails a day. Most have
multiple recipients. He was using Outlook on his old HP with no problems. It
just started on the new computer.

He is using a new HP dc7900 desktop, XP Pro SP3, Office 2007 Pro Plus and
BCM with SP2 applied. We are currently using POP3 to our website host. We
have his email account setup just like all the rest in our office.

Here's the problem and remember this doesn't happen with every email but it
seems to be getting worse. When he is ready to send an email he clicks the
"Send" button. Nothing seems to happen. The email is still on the screen
like the send button was never clicked but there is warning generated that
says "Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not
valid." The error is also recorded in the Application Event Log. Source:
Outlook, Event ID: 25 and then the warning message.

To troubleshoot the problem, I deleted his .Nk2 file so that all names used
in the "To:", "Cc" or "Bcc" come from BCM and not from old history.

I added three addresses from BCM (people in our office) to the "To:" box. I
gave the email a subject and "Test" for a message. When I click
"Send" the warning above is generated and the message stayed on the screen
and was not sent. When I move ANY one of the addresses from the "To:" box to
the "Cc" or "Bcc" box and click send the message is sent successfully.

Again I deleted the .Nk2 file and tried one address in the "To:" box and 3
in the "Cc" box. Again the email would not send and generated the warning.
If I move ANY of the addresses from the "Cc" box to the "To:" box so that
there are 2 in each box, the message will send successfully.

I repeated the process again using a three address boxes. It seems that for
testing, I cannot send the message with more than 2 addresses per box for a
grand total of 6 addresses. This doen't seem to be a problem with any of the
address parameter values.

There is something very very wrong with Outlook on his computer. Because the
message doesn't even send at all I think the problem is with some setting on
his computer. This problem also happens when he replies to emails he has
received.

We've done a scanpst, an Office 2007 repair, removed and reinstalled Office,
created .pst file and imported from a backup and imported BCM from a backup.

Any ideas as to a solution to this would really help us out.

Thanks

The error that is recorded in the event log for Outlook, does it mention a
problem reading reminders?

No there is nothing about reading reminders. The entire message is what was
quoted below.

I don't think the autocompletion cache has anything to do with the problem.
Does the behavior change if you try starting Outlook in safe mode? What if
you uninstall BCM?

I just checked in safemode. There is no change. BCM isn't started when in
safemode so I hate to uninstall it. And I'm with you on autocompletion. I
don't think that is the problem either. I was just using that for
consistancy. It seems like the message doesn't want to accept more than 2
addresses per box. I don't know of any setting that would cause such
behavior.
