Strange questions for authentication

Sally

I am an MS project server administrator and I can access SharePoint sites
created out of MSP 2003 and their counterparts in native Sharepoint without
an issue. Ron is an administrator and when he attempts to access Sharepoint
sites created out of MSP 2003 and native Sharepoint, he is constantly
prompted for user ID and password. If he hits cancel, he can proceed to the
next page (and the next prompt) so he is not really stopped but its annoying!
If I log on to Ron's machine, I get the prompts. If Ron logs on to my
machine, he doesn't. Bill is not an administrator and gets the prompts on
his machine. When he logs on to Ron's, he does not. We have compared
browser settings and profiles. Is this an IIS issue? Is it related to Ron's
profile on his machine (even though our profiles appear to be the same)? Is
this question posted to the correct newsgroup? If not, which would be more
appropriate? Thanks!!

Sally,

We have this issue. Basically, your workstation is logging into the NT
domain by default and as such, passes your credentials to the SharePoint site
automatically. This is how my workstation is configured.

It sounds like the other workstations are not configured the same way, so
they have to re-enter the credential information everytime it is needed. You
probably need to discuss this with your desktop configuration and network
configuration people.

Hope this helps.

TGG,

Thanks for the feedback. We've been all over this problem. Can you tell me
specifically what was not configured correctly and caused this problem?? I
ask because we've already compared profiles and settings.

My organization spent weeks upon weeks with this issue. An outside
consulting company was able to tweak a few things which worked for a few
weeks, but the issue came back. What has worked for around the past month is
to make sure that "Discuss" is not checked in Internet Explorer. That is,
VIEW, EXPLORER BAR, DISCUSS.

I was having this exact problem! (5 years after this thread was created)
I was constantly being prompted for my user name and password. I did have
the "Discussion" toolbar on. I have turned it off and am no longer being
prompted for authentication! Yay!
