Strange security problem?

I have a strange problem in an Access 2003 application that I have been
working with since last summer. Well, actually longer, since the application
has been running under Access 97 since 1998 and I created it back then. It
was converted to Access 2003 in december last year without any problem.

For the last two weeks or something a very strange problem has occurred. But
only occassionally. And mostly also on computers other than the one that I
use for developing. What happens is that sometimes forms with subforms won't
open, reports won't open, forms won't open in design view. I am the only one
that works with the .mdb file. At work or at home. All the users only get an
..mde file.

During Easter I had the ambition of doing some work at home but could not
since the copy of the .mdb file that I took home on a USB memory did not work
as it should. Tables and questions open ok. As do forms but only without
subforms from the application. However no forms open from the database
window. Reports don't open either. The same file works ok though at work.

About the same thing happened about a week ago when I used a laptop for
demonstration. Reports did not open at all. Very frustrating.

If anyone has any idea why this happens I'd be very grateful. I'm sort of
lost. I'm not at all sure it's a security issue but I don't know what it is
if it's not about security. Hope you have some idea ... Thanks.

Maybe I should also add that all computers involved are running Windows XP
since December last year. Nothing has happened with the OS since then as far
as I know. At least nothing that makes one computer differ from another.

Does the mdb compile? (hit Ctrl-G, Debug menu, Compile). Then hit the save
button. Close that window and compact the mdb.

You could also try creating a new mdb and importing all the objects (again
follow that with a compile and compact.)

Yes, yes. The mdb compiles alright. And runs alright apart from what I
described. On my own computer it runs very well. I've compacted the mdb
several times hoping it would help. But these problems seem to occur anyway
on other computers.

Yeah, I've considered creating a new one and importing everything there. But
I was hoping I could somehow avoid that ... and possibly even understand what
has happened.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Sometimes file corruption occurs and it's not always possible to explain
why. FWIW I concur that importing objects into a new file is the way to go.

Thanks for convincing me that this was the right thing to do. I created a
new database on the computer used for developing, the one that has been
working best so far. Imported every objekt, compiled, compressed, set the
desired options under Tools Alternatives and Start. And then transferred the
database to the laptop I'm going to use tomorrow for an another demo/training
day. And ... so far so good. Seems to be working. At least right now. I don't
quite believe this until I have distributed a new mde version to all users
and they haven't complained for a few days. So, I'll be back some time next
week :).

Madeleine
PS. What does FWIW mean? Sorry for not being acquainted with all the fancy
abbreviations. I'm from Sweden :).

Is that a Fawlty Towers moment? Just kidding ;-)

No, it's not. Barcelona is far from Sweden. Since I'm living in the north of
Sweden the distance would be something like 3500 km. And I'm not kidding. I
think ... Anyway, Manuels are far more silly than Madeleines!

Just want to "officially announce" that everything (well, not everything but
this) is working fine now. Now more strange behaviour. So, once again, thanks
for good advice!

Great news :)
