Strange things happening in Word 2002

For some time now I have been having problems whenever I
open a Word document. There are two basic problems:
1) Word automatically inserts words wherever the cursor
is set.
2) Menus automatically drop down, Word automatically
opens documents, the find menu, etc.--all without my
moving the cursor.

I have XP Professional on Dell Inspiron 8200 with 30 G.
memory. Dell suggested that I rename my normal.dot, in
case it was corrupted. I have done that, but the problem
continues. I'm pulling my hair out--someone please help
me! Thanks.

Thanks Suzanne, for answering my message. However, I do
not have Speech Recognition enabled. Any other ideas?
