Strange View Behavior - Gantt View Missing Custom Field Data

B

Brent99Admin

I'm in the process of helping a client define new Gantt views to include in
the EGT. The new views are going to be used to display information for
Master Project Schedules created on the fly from PWA.

Two views have been created and both have been placed in the EGT. One of
the views includes information stored in the Enterprise Custom Project
fields. When I open multiple schedules from PWA and select the new view in
Project Professional I can see all project information for the summary task
for each project and for each project task. However, three of the clients
have tried to use the view and none of the Enterprise Custom Field
information displays for each project (at the summary level) in the Master
Schedule.

Info To Know
---------------
* The views were created by me and entered into the EGT by me.
* The views can be seen by everyone that connects to Project Server using
Project Pro.
* All Enterprise Custom Field data is available and displayed in a PWA view
that was created and the data can be seen by all users.
* My account in Project Server is in the Administrators group only. One of
the clients is in the Administrators group only, while the others are in the
Portfolio Managers group.
* Data for the Enterprise Custom Fields can be seen for each task in each
project but it doesn't display at the project name [summary] level.
* Drop-downs for each of the Enteprise Custom Fields work and contain the
correct value list data for selection.
* All machines have Windows XP SP2 for the desktop and/or MDAC 2.81 RTM.
* My machine has Project Pro SP1 - not sure if client desktops have SP1.

Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? Any ideas or an actual
resolution for this problem?

In the future, please post your Project Server questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is devoted to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question,
your client should do the following:

1. Open the master project "on the fly" from the Project Center page in PWA
2. Expand each of the subprojects (a critical step)
3. Press the F9 function key to recalculate the master project, if
necessary

Let us know if this helps.

Dale,

Thanks so much for your reply. I wasn't sure where to post this item so I
started with the Project General newsgroup...my apologies.

The answer you provided sounded logical and I thought that it might resolve
the issue but it has not. The Enterprise Custom Fields are in fact displayed
for each of the tasks and the users were in fact expanding the view to show
'all subtasks'. Any other ideas on what may be causing this issue?

For those who are interested I have identified that the missing Enterprise
Custom Field data is related to SP2 being installed on the client machines.
I have validated that this is the problem by having a user [who was having
data display problems] log on with my laptop and he was able to see the data.
I also logged into a desktop for a user that was having problems and I was
not able to see the data.

I'm guessing this is related to the error that has been identified by
Microsoft with EOCs and the structure of field lists. We will be try to
resolve the problem by installing SP2a on a desktop and trying this process
again.
