strange way to compare dates

Hi
don't understand following situation

date = 16/01/09 (we use format dd/mm/yyyy)
form!bedrijven!datumveld= 13/01/09

when I write:
? date > form!bedrijven!datumveld I get a false
or
? date < form!bedrijven!datumveld I get a true

I don't know how 16/01/09 can be < then 13/01/09

Or am I so dumb?

If the control “forms!bedrijven!datumveld†format is “dd/mm/yyyy’ than your
input is incorrect “13/01/09â€. You should input as a 4 digit year like “2009â€.
If there’s no formating, the results may also vary.

A test on my end show “02-01-1900†on the control but these are subjected to
your regional settings of your OS.
