String variables used in Query Criteria

Will somebody please explain the Quotation Mark (") and Quote (') rules in
VBA when creating search criteria using a string variable. I currently am
typing the search criteria in a text box on a form called txtSearchCriteria
then passing the contents of this text box to the Query's criteria via a
string variable ([Forms]![FormName]![txtSearchCriteria]). I have tried
several different combinations of quotation marks and quotes but to no
avail.
