Stripping out All But Filtered Info

We have a large schedule that includes internal dates that we track as well
as resource hours, rates, total costs, etc. We made a custom filter to
provide only pertinent data to our customer and we convert that into a PDF
file.

Our customer wants that data in Microsoft Project. How can we provide this
to them without all of our proprietary information without going to a lot of
trouble each time? Can we take a snapshot of our filtered custom view and
save that as a separate MS Project file?

TKS_Mark,
There is no way to take a filtered view (snapshot or otherwise) and then
have that be a separate Project file, at least not without a lot of
effort.

FIrst of all, just because your customer wants the full project file, is
your company willing to give it to them, even with the proprietary
information removed? If you have a good working relationship with your
customer, then it is probably a good thing that they have what you have.
On the other hand, if your customer is in the mode of micro-managing,
then giving them the project file is going create more headaches than
you want.

How much proprietary information is in your file? If it is basically
just the resource rates, those can be stripped out and replaced with
generic values (e.g. $1/hr) without too much trouble. You will however
also have to remember to clear baseline cost and spare cost fields, if
used. If your file has other proprietary information, depending on what
it is, it may or may not be a big deal to strip it out.

So, the bottom line is, it can be done. But the real question is, do you
want to do it.
