This CF error indicates a syntax problem with the formula being entered.
That said, you don't mention which version of Excel you are using, nor do
you provide the actual formula you are entering (or trying to enter), so it
is difficult to provide suggestions.
You might want to post your issue (with more detail) in the
excel.worksheetformulas newsgroup rather than this newsgroup- that group has
more overall activity, and there are a lot of really smart contributors there
that can help with even very complex formula syntax.
