struggling with figures

I'm using word 97 and I'm always struggling with pictures
moving everywhere except to the place I want them. Does
anybody have tips?

Whenever possible, place them inline with the text
(deactivate "float over text").

NEVER try to insert them into a "text box" and then apply
text wrap formatting. If you do put them in a textbox, then
inline with the text and apply the textwrap formatting to
the textbox.

Upgrade to a newer version of Word, where the graphics
functionality (among other things) is much more stable.
