stubbornly corrupted AutoText Entry

I thought I had this problem solved but it's returned.

I have an AutoText entry, United States. When I start to type it, I get
an AutoText prompt that says "Libertarianism's absoUnitedStates" But
then, when I enter the entry, the words "United States" are inserted
correctly into the document. So the junk text only appears in the
prompt.

I've deleted and recreated the entry several times, but the junk text
keeps returning. I've even used Organizer to delete that entry from the
current Normal, and copy in an other versin of that entry from a Normal
backup in which that entry is not corrupted. But as soon as the new
entry is created in Normal, it has that same junk text in the prompt!

So is the only way to fix it to create a new Normal, based on a backup?

Just delete the entry; close Word and say Yes to saving normal.dot changes.
Open Word, type it out, select it and add it back again to AutoText.

It doesn't have to be "United States." If I delete that, and create
another entry and if the new entry begins with the letter "T" or "U,"
then the new entry has the junk text appear in the prompt. But only one
entry at a time has the junk text.

I have a feeling this was created by the Spike command, that when the
Spike was created, which is an autotext entry called Spike, some of the
text of it "leaked" into some area of the template where AutoText
entries are stored.

I created a junk entry, "Unxiloftus," and it had the junk text in the
prompt, but then I recreated "United States," thinking it would be ok,
but instead the junk text was transferred to the United States entry
while "Unxiloftus" no longer had the junk text. Weird.

Tried that, it doesn't work, the junk returns.

Just delete the entry; close Word and say Yes to saving normal.dot
changes. Open Word, type it out, select it and add it back again to
AutoText.

Here's the "junk" way that I solved this junk problem. I deleted the
United States entry. I created a junk entry called "Tatalong." It has
the junk text in the prompt. Then I recreated the United States entry
and it's ok. Maybe because "tatalong" precedes "united" alphabetically,
it works to grab the junk text, whereas the other junk entry I created,
beginning with the letters "unx" didn't hold on to the junk text.

Once again, weird.

Definitely weird! AutoText files are normally held in a .acl file (if they
are unformatted). Perhaps deleting the .acl file and then running Detect and
Repair will replace the file and remove the corruption (if it is in the .acl
file). To read more about AutoText and where it is stored, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/ExportAutocorrect.htm

I think it's unformatted AutoCorrect entries that are in the .acl file
and AutoText entries are in a template, usually Normal.

Oops...

AutoCorrect entries are held in an acl file. AutoText is in templates.
