stuck on last step of install

I've been trying to fix problems with Office X. (Crashing on startup.)
I managed to uninstall Office X, and now I'm trying to install it. I
get stuck at the final step of the setup assistant: I put in my name,
organization, and the product key ... but the button saying "next"
remains gray, so I can't proceed -- and can't complete the install.
I've done this before (without solving the problem) but did not get
stuck at this point. now I'm Office-less; any thoughts?

Are you absolutely sure you are entering the product key correctly? It is on
the yellow sticker on the disk envelope. It's really easy to confuse 8 with
B and 1 with l (ell) etc.

Yes, but the problem solved itself this morning (maybe because of a
reboot?). Anyway, I'm still at square one on my main problem, which
I've posted about elsewhere. All Office programs crash when I try to
open them directly; I have to open a specific document instead.
