student and teacher edition - any cons?

I'm a grad student considering buying OFFICE 2004 student and teacher
edition. is there any big reason why i shouldn;t do this i.e. things i
will miss out on?

also, is there a big difference between the mac office and pf office.
for example, equations editor in word wasn't on my last version of word
for a mac. or some tools in excel weren't there either.

thanks!

Some things are only installed if you do a Custom Install when
you install Office. Equation Editor is one of those things. It's
not included in a Standard Install, but it's on the CD of every
copy of Office delivered, regardless of the version.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pf office". If you mean Office for
Windows, whether there are big differences or not depends on
which features you tend to use, and which versions you're
comparing. You'll find the least difference, obviously, in the
latest versions of both products -- Office 2004 for Macintosh and
Office 2003 for Windows. Documents created on one platform are,
for the most part, compatible with documents created on the
other.

If you're using PowerPoint, there always has been (and I suspect
always will be) a big difference between the two platforms. PPT
for Windows has always been more advanced than PPT for Mac --
especially with regard to custom animation. A notable exception
is Presenter Tools (which is called Presenter View in PPT for
Windows). This feature is much better on the Mac -- so much so
that I would never consider using it on the PC, but use it quite
often with my PowerBook.

Only difference between student and teacher vs. standard edition is the
license. You won't be guaranteed to be able to upgrade from a S&T
version, but you could buy two or more for the price of the standard,
and past upgrades from S&T have been allowed.

You won't miss out on anything compared to other recent MacOffice
versions...
