student needs to install office 2003

Hi,

I have Office 2000, Small Business installed on my XP Home system. No
Powerpoint. Picked up the FULL version of Office Professional 2003 to
install.

My questions: Should I REMOVE Office 2000 before installing the 2003 Office?

Is it best to use the Add/remove programs to
uninstall Office 2000?

Is there a faq where this is already covered? Thanks in advance, PowerPoint
project due Monday!

It's up to you whether you want to keep Office 2000 or delete it.
Office 2000 and Office 2003 can coexist on the same computer, but
there's not much point in keeping it on the hard drive if you're not
going to use it. If you uninstall Office 2000, you will lose the Office
Shortcut Bar, which is not included in Office 2003. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=218861 "How to run multiple versions
of Office on one computer" for more details.

Yes.

Let the Office 2003 installation program do the uninstall of Office 2000 for
you. Prior versions of your Office applications will be removed and your
settings preserved.

BTW: the applications included in a full editions of Office 2003 are
identical to those included the same upgrade edition of Office 2003.

As DonMI suggests, I would let the Office 2003 installer remove Office
2000 for you. But first, back up your Word
templates/autocorrect/dictionary, Excel templates, Outlook .pst file,
etc., just in case Something Bad happens during the Office 2003
installation.
