A friend asked my help in reducing the size of his Ppt 2003 presentation
file down from 4.5 MB.
He had tried everything, including removing hidden data etc.
His presentation consisted of 10 photographs and two wav files of very
modest size.
I started with copying the photographs to see what size they were. None
were above 100 KB.
I removed the photographs form the presentation, to be left with text
with their animation effects and the two wav files. Total size 300 KB.
I then inserted the saved photographs into the presentation from which I
had removed them. (Each time I made changes I saved the file with a
different name.) Again 4.5 MB size.
He rang me up two days later and said he had managed to reduce the file
by attaching the original photographs to an e-mail sent to himself using
PhotoPlus 9 which automatically resizes the photographs. He saved those
attachments and reinserted them into his presentation. Bingo, about 1.2
MB, quality still acceptable.
Obviously the originals bloated the file, but why and how, as together
they added up to less than 1 MB.
This really has me puzzled and would be grateful if someone could
explain this, or voice an opinion.
