Using Excel 2007.
Columns A and B, rows 1 to 4 get the following.
(Though the specific data values don't seem to matter.)
X X2
1 1
2 4
3 9
Highlight these cells, insert a scatter plot,
the kind with the straight lines and the data point
indicators.
Hey, I get my nice segments of my parabola.
Now I do the formatting I want, such as putting
in the border for the plot area I want.
Click on my graph. Copy, paste. Now I have
a copy of my graph, including my formatting.
Click on the data series in this graph. It highlights.
Yeah, fine. Click the delete key. The series goes
away. I've got a blank graph.
Columns E and F, rows 1 to 4 get the following.
X X3
1 1
2 8
3 27
Highlight the data in these cells. Copy. Click on
the blank graph. Selecte Paste Special, choose
Series name in first row, and category (X) values
in first column, and click OK.
I get two curves, one with label X, that plots the
1,2,3, as Y values, one with lable X3 that plots
the 1,8,27.
What? What's going on here? Why does it not
recognize that there is only one data series here?
