Stupid Grey Undeletable Brackets

They appeared on several .docs as I was trying to get 2003 set up to
my liking again.

Now I can't get 'rid' of them. I have one longdoc that has one
(cut/pasted) page (and the orig.) that STILL has these brackets. And
I've forgotten what they are, how to get rid of 'em!!!

(Thought I had a message marked re this, but can't find it either...
Sigh.)

That will hide them. You can list and delete them through Insert |
Bookmarks, if you want to.

Yes! That worked. Thank you very much...

Strange as I don't really use bookmarks, I like 'comments' much better
for my needs. So don't know how they got there to begin with!

Bookmarks and comments serve entirely different purposes. Some bookmarks are
inserted by Word (when you create a TOC, cross-reference, etc.), but they
are hidden, so you'll never see the brackets for those.
