Stupid question from a supervisor

We are trying to use Access for automate sign-ups for
regular events. The events occur about every other week
and each person in the office signs up for one half-hour
time slot. (We also use Access to run queries, etc, on
the information.) Is it possible to automatically update
someone's Outlook calendar with their meeting time when
they sign up? Is it easy to do?

There are no stupid questions. Only stupid attitudes.
Yes it is possible. Get a book on CDO - Collaboration Data Objects.
It is quite an effort though.

The best way would be to share the outlook calendar and use that for
scheduling.

I know some small medial offices, and law offices use Outlook for all their
scheduling stuff. It works very well indeed, and no software development is
requited.

however, to seamlessly share outlook calanders you need to be running
Exchange server.

As far as I know, there isn't a way in Outlook to let
people sign up on a first come basis for time slots. We
have several time slots and no more than one person can
sign up for each slot. Access allows multiple users to
sign up and restricts sign-ups to one person per slot. It
also allows someone to see other events and sing up for
time slots for those as well. Ideally, we'd like the slot
to show up in the person's Outlook calendar without an
extra step. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

You might want to check this add-on for outlook:
MEETING PLANNER FOR OUTLOOK.

http://www.emergingsoft.com/meetingplanner/

Resource scheduling tool for Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2000 or later .
Custom Outlook form allows searches of available rooms by various criteria.
Users can view room floor plans and installed equipment, make catering
requests. Reports show room availability and usage. XML web services
interface allows additional customization.
