Unfortunately, there's no way to turn it off! But you can find a couple of

Thanks, it's really an annoying "feature" when you're trying to grab
text and the damn mail program keeps opening!

Thanks, it's really an annoying "feature" when you're trying to grab
text and the damn mail program keeps opening!

If, right after you enter an email address or a URL, you hit cmd-Z (undo) the
cell will convert to plain text.

I also recorded a macro and put a shortcut icon in the menu bar that does the
same thing for multiple cells at once.

What I do--sometimes--is to go to an adjacent cell and move to the desired
cell with an arrow key. Then you can copy the cell contents without invoking
the address.
