Hi,

not sure what the style ..

style="border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor="#111111"
id="AutoNumber1"

does ? (except for border color of course :)) )

but I would like to get rid of it unless it's important as it's not
compatible with a lot of browers.

have looked thru the help (FP XP) but can't discover how to remove it.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Michael

It collapses the border. What Browsers have you encountered where it
gives problems? I don't know of any!

I checked a page at http://www.fixingyourwebsite.com/drhtml.html which
seems to be the best verification page that I've found so far.

There was a browser conflict problem without almost every browser
because of the "style" tag.

The only "style" tag that I had was the one below.

Maybe I'm adding 2+2 and getting 5 ?

Anyway supposing I don't want "collapsed borders" or the addition of
"auto number" - how do I stop it from being automatically added ?

thanks

Michael

I would suggest you try to use http://validator.w3.org/ instead.
In Table Properties uncheck "Collapse table border".
In Tools | Page options uncheck "Assign uniquee ID's to new Tables"

thanks very much !

Although my version of FP updated with Office XP it still left me with
FP 2002 which doesn't allow for the changes below.

I did find a third party plug in which gets rid of the auto-collapse
upon "save".

Will try the validator ..

Michael

For version 3 and 4 it is likely correct as these are ancient. Even if 6
and 7 also doesn't understand it (Version 7 at least should) it wont
give errors as they will just ignore it. Besides Netscape accounts for
about 1% of browsers used today.
Now, if it didn't work in Firefox you would have some cause for concern.

Hi Jens,

of course you're right about Netscape and Firefox :)

just following up on this because I came across an HTML site which
seems very complete .. and might be of interest to others ...

http://www.htmlref.com/

his comments on border-collapse are quite interesting, as is much of
what he expains,

regards and thanks,

Mike

This CSS2 property defines if table cell borders are connected or
separate. Allowed values are separate and collapse. With a value of
collapse, the borders appear to collapse on each other so that there's
no more spacing between the borders. A rendering here in Internet
Explorer 6 should illustrate the idea of the property.

Example

<table border="1" style="border-collapse: collapse;">
<tr>
<td>Cell 1</td><td>Cell 2</td><td>Cell 3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Cell 4</td><td></td><td>Cell 5</td>
</tr>
</table>

Browser and CSS Support Notes

CSS2
IE 5, 5.5, 6 (buggy)
Nav 6, 7
Opera 5, 6, 7
TIP There are significant rendering differences in browsers even when
the border-collapse property is supported.

For version 3 and 4 it is likely correct as these are ancient. Even if 6
and 7 also doesn't understand it (Version 7 at least should) it wont
give errors as they will just ignore it. Besides Netscape accounts for
about 1% of browsers used today.
