Style Changes from Setting

Hi:

I have a heading style called "heading 2". When I start to
type and make and error, and go back to correct, I lose my
heading style. If I insert a "space" I get it back, but if
I remove the space, I lose the style.

Why does this happen and how do I fix it? It's a pain to
have to type the entire heading over again.
