Style Characters Not Working in .RTF

Hi,

I am using Word 2000. I have created character styles (bold, italics,
underline) and applied a shortcut key to each. I also created a
customized toolbar and added each style command to it. I copied
Word's icon from the formatting toolbar to add to my customized
toolbar. (B for Bold, I for italics and U for underline). I create a
new document and all new buttons work fine and apply the styles.

However, I open an agreement saved as an RTF and copy (through the
Organizer) the character styles to the RTF agreement. I apply the
shortcut and the styles don't work. They don't work. No styles are
applied to the text. I then attempt to create the styles in the RTF
agreement and assign shortcut keys to be available in the RTF
agreement and was unsuccessful. The styles would apply.

I'm obviously missing something and am not doing something I should
be. Do styles behave differently in an RTF? What about shortcut key
assignments - do they follow the style when copied through the
organizer as well?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hi Michele,

The RTF file format can't store keyboard shortcuts or toolbar
assignments. If you created the pairs in a global template or Normal.dot
you might get the functionality to use in the RTF document.

Hi all
The RTF file format can't store keyboard shortcuts or toolbar
assignments.

Plus: you wouldn't get shortcuts by copying the styles alone, would you?

Hello Cindy and Bob ~

Thank you so much for the information. Since I've posted the
question, we have learned that if we create both the style/keyboard
shortcut in the Normal.dot and copy the style three times - we do get
the functionality of both in the .rtf

Thanks again and have a great weekend!
