Style - Characters

P

Pauba

Hello guys:

It's about styles.

Is it possible to apply a new style in some sentences -- Style Type:
Character // Based on: underlying proprieties -- work with the document, and
then go back to the original formatting?

Actually, what I want to know it is the following: is the "underlying
proprieties" a "second layer" of formatting? Is that something that I could
scrap off afterwards? If so, how can I take this "second layer" off?

The style would be applied over bold, italic, and regular font -- and I need
all this formatting back.

Thanks,

P.

Thanks,

P.

Hi Pauba

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for, but maybe this
helps.

1. A paragraph style can be based on a paragraph style. Changing the
style of the parent changes the child. See
How styles cascade in Word

http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/styles/HowStylesCascade.html

2. A character style is always applied on top of a paragraph style. So
the paragraph style can be, say, Body Text. And you can apply a
character style to some of the characters in that paragraph. That lies
on top of the paragraph style. The paragraph is still in style Body
Text.

If this information is not useful, post back and tell us (a) what
version of Word you have and (b) what you are trying to achieve.

Hope this helps.

Hello Shauna:

Thank you for your response. I'll try to explain in another way.

Text is using the style Normal. The author formatted some words/sentences in
bold and italic -- so, these wrods/sentences are still bold and italic, but
with the formatting applied on to it.

I need to hide part of the text.

I created the style HiddenText - Style Type: Characters - Based on:
Underlying proprietues - and added Hidden.

I highlighted the text I need to hide. I applied the new style, and the text
now is hidden, but I lost the bold and italic formatting.

So, the question is, how can I hide the text using a Style, without loosing
the format applied.

Thanks,

P.

Hi Pauba

I can't think of any way to achieve what you want using styles. The best
I can think of is to create a character style that is set to default
paragraph font + bold + italic + hidden. You could then apply that style
(so the text would be bold, italic and hidden). When you need to
un-hide, go back to the default paragraph font, and add bold and italic
manually.

Hope this helps.
