Style leading only works on the first page

I have a "Title" style defined that calls for 36 pts of leading
(spacing) before. It also has "Keep with next" set as does the next
few lines of each section.

The leading is added for the first occurence of my Title style in the
document and after each section break (new page), but not when it
occurs at the top of a page later in each section.

How can I make it either do it always or never? As it is, I can't put
the leading in the header or there will be too much on the first page.

Hi Top Spin,

From the Tools menu, select Options and go to the Compatibility tab and
uncheck the "Suppress Space Before after a hard page or column break"
option.

That's just what Doug suggested. I tried it both ways. No difference.

Do I have to close Word and restart it?

Although this won't work on page 1, it should work after page and column
breaks. You'll still see the space (in Print Layout view), but it will be
above the margin (and of course you'll see it in Normal view).

It *doesn't* work after section breaks; this is by design, since
conventional book layout calls for extra space before the heading ("chapter
title") at the beginning of a chapter/section.
