I created a procedure template in Word XP. Everything was working
fine--until I just happened to try to close the template when the Styles and
Formatting Task Pane was open--then I got the message "Microsoft Word has
encountered a problem and has to close.....".
After much testing, I have found that Word encounters this problem whenever
the template itself is being closed or a document from the template is being
closed--but *only* when the Styles and Formatting Task Pane is open. There
is no problem closing the template or document when the New Document Task
Pane or the Reveal Formatting Task Pane or no task pane is open.
As far as I know, the template works entirely as planned except for the
above problem--but I can't tell users to be sure to close the Styles and
Formatting Task Pane before closing their documents! Them template does
contain many styles. It also has AutoOpen, AutoNew, and AutoClose macros. I
disabled the AutoClose macro but still had the problem.
Is this a known problem? Is my template corrupt in some fixable way?
TIA,
