style sheet problem

Dave

We have 3 people each working on a copy of the same file. When the copy
on one machine is opened, ithas several style sheets that do not appear on
the other machines. (These style sheets were not created since the file was
copied.) How can this be if the document on all 3 machines was copied
from the same "master" file? Thanks! Dave

What is a "style sheet" in your lingo? Do you mean a template? Copying a
document from one machine to another does not magically copy the
template as well. If you want a user to have access to both a file and
the template from which it was created, you must give that user both the
template and the file. m.

I should add that if by "style sheet" you mean a style, styles can be
saved in various places including the template, so it is possible that
the style was not saved into the document when it was created. m.

Matt:

I'm as confused as hell myself. But I think you are right, he means
"Style".

In which case, the foreign styles are in the user's Normal template. They
will appear in the Formatting Pane.

It may be that the users are using local instances of the document's
attached template. If they are, then all bets are off: each template is
individual.

Provided that the documents are attached to their templates with
"Automatically update styles on open" switched OFF, this won't matter,
because a Word document makes no reference to the template after creation
unless you force it to with that setting in Tools>Templates and
Add-ins>Attach...

Cheers
