STYLEREF

I am trying to put a field in my header of my document to put the CaseNumber
field result from the document. Here is what I put: { STYLEREF "Form field"
\* MERGEFORMAT } This picks up the first form field in this document;
however I want it to pick up the field that I have bookmarked as CaseNumber?
How do I do that?

That's not how a StyleRef field works. It should contain the name of a
style, not a form field. Then it will show the most recent text that's
formatted with that style.

One way to get this to work is to choose a style (or make a new one)
and apply it only to the desired form field; and then put that style's
name in the StyleRef field. This is the recommended method, because
the StyleRef field updates automatically.

For another method, you can use the name of the form field in a Ref
field instead of a StyleRef field. You can find the field's name by
double-clicking the form field (while the form isn't locked) to open
the Properties dialog and looking at the "Bookmark" box; you can
change that value if you want. The drawback is that the Ref field in
the header won't update automatically; you'll have to update it
manually, or go to Print Preview which forces an update.

See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm for some more
tricks.
