Styles and Formatting feature - select all doesn't work

When I try to use the select all feature to modify a style (that I have
applied to a number of objects) I get a greyed out "Select All: Not Currently
Used" response. The "Select All" box is also greyed out. I know I can modify
the format and use the "automatically update" check box but it bugs me that
the select all feature is not working. I must be missing something! Thanks
for your help.

For this option to function you must have the following option checked.
Tools, Optins, Edit, Keep track of changes.
