Styles and formatting task bar - "Select all" greyed out W2003

Using the Styles and Formatting task bar, I am finding that the "Select All"
option is no longer available although it has been until now.

This is happening for styles that are in use and which have been selected at
the cursor - all other styles functions are available.

The "Select All" button (along side the "New Style" button and below the
"Formatting of selected text" box) is greyed out.

When a specific style is selected from the "Pick formatting to apply" list,
the drop-down shows all the usual options: "Modify", "Delete" and "Update to
match selection" are available but the top option is greyed out and reads
"Select All: Not Currently Used"

Any suggestions gratefully received.

This feature is not available unless you have "Keep track of formatting"
enabled on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

Many thanks - that did the trick - couldn't find a reference to it anywhere
on the MS site.

I must have unchecked it inadvertently at some time recently.

Bad form to follow my own post, I know. Just thought I'd mention that it was
a client's template that was unchecking the box.

Hi Peter:

I routinely uncheck Keep Track of Formatting because it leads to style
table pollution. That's the source of the "Char Char" style bug.

Cheers
