Styles and Formatting/TOC

Eric M.

I am using Word 2002 in Windows XP. I have a 300 page manual and when I
created the TOC there are duplicate entries for the same units. For example,
Unit 2 - Enter Comment will be listed twice. The second entry is the correct
one. The first one refers to the page break before Unit 2. I looked into it
a little more and the style of Heading 2 (which is for Units) gets applied to
the page break. I can't seem to change one without the other. I tried to
clear formatting for the page break and nothing happens. I try to apply a
different format to the p.b. and it gets applied to the Unit as well. Any
ideas?

Hello Eric,

This is a newsgroup for users of Macintosh editions of Word, which are
slightly different from Windows versions. Some differences are very subtle,
including table of contents behaviour. A few people here operate both
versions, and may answer you, but you would be better off posting at a
newsgroup such as microsoft.public.word.formatting.longdocs.

I would have started the ball rolling by asking whether "Unit 2 - Enter
Comment will be listed twice" means that two table of contents entries were
created with that wording, or whether the duplicated entry is a blank entry
at the same level in the hierarchy. You might like to clarify that when you
pose the question on the other NG.

Then again, somebody might just answer it here! :)
